Get in the Holiday Spirit

Let’s turn our houses into winter wonderlands! We’re getting into the best ways to decorate the halls, make a holiday playlist and light up the night. Get ready to feel the holiday cheer!
Decorate the Halls with a Christmas Tree
Time to break out the holiday boxes!
We like to celebrate and start with a sparkly tree as the focal point. Decorating Christmas trees is a cherished activity that brings families together, allowing them to create lasting memories. Whether you go real or fake, make it your own with ornaments that tell your family’s story.
Don’t forget the garlands! Drape them over mantels, stairs and doorways for instant coziness.
Want to get crafty? Try making a DIY pinecone ornament with the kids.
It’s a fun activity and adds a personal touch to your decor.
Remember it’s not just about looks. Holiday scents can transport us to a magical place.
Pop some cinnamon sticks in a pot of water on the stove or light that gingerbread scented candle. Your nose will thank you!
Create Your Dream Holiday Playlist
Nothing sets the mood like holiday music though! We’re all about making the perfect holiday soundtrack.
Start with the classics – who doesn’t love a little Bing Crosby? But don’t be afraid to mix it up with some modern tunes.
Make a family playlist where everyone gets to add their favorites.
It’s a great way to find new favorite gifts, holiday traditions and tunes and keep everyone happy.
Pro tip: make different playlists for different moods. Upbeat tunes for decorating, chill vibes for cocoa by the fire.
Want to take it up a notch? Host a family karaoke night with your holiday playlist.
Trust us there’s nothing funnier than Dad trying to hit those high notes in “All I Want for Christmas Is You”!
Light Up the Season with Holiday Lights
Time to shine! Holiday lights are the magic maker when it comes to the season.
Start inside with string lights around windows and doorframes. Don’t forget the tree – we’re all about that warm, twinkly glow.
Feeling brave? Go outside!
String lights along your roofline or wrap them around trees and bushes. For an extra special touch create a light-up pathway to your front door. It’s like rolling out the red carpet for Santa!
Remember, safety first! Always check your lights for frayed wires before plugging them in.
And if you’re going all out with the outdoor display, maybe give your neighbors a heads up.
They’ll appreciate the thought (and probably love the view!).
Starting New Holiday Traditions
Starting new holiday traditions can be a fun and exciting way to create lasting memories with your loved ones. Whether you’re looking to start a new tradition with your family, friends, or community, there are countless ways to make the holiday season special.
Embrace New Activities and Rituals
Why not shake things up this holiday season? Embracing new activities and rituals can add a fresh twist to your celebrations. Try out a new recipe that you’ve never made before—maybe a festive dish from another culture. Decorate your home in a new way, perhaps with handmade ornaments or a unique theme. Participating in new holiday activities, like a winter scavenger hunt or a family talent show, can also become a beloved holiday tradition. The key is to be open to new experiences and see what brings the most joy to your family.
Blend Old and New for Unique Celebrations
Combining the comfort of old traditions with the excitement of new ones can create a holiday celebration that’s both nostalgic and fresh. Imagine watching your favorite classic holiday movie but adding a modern twist, like a themed dress-up night or a special snack bar. Or try a new holiday recipe that incorporates a traditional ingredient, giving it a familiar yet exciting flavor. By blending old and new, you create a unique holiday tradition that everyone will look forward to year after year.
Foodie Fun and Tasty Traditions

Holiday meals bring families together during the winter holidays. We love making yummy treats and festive meals that become family traditions.
Baking Frenzy: Cookies and Gingerbread Houses
Let’s get baking! Cookie swaps are so much fun to share with friends and family.
We each bake a big batch of our favorite cookies and trade them. It’s like getting a holiday cookie platter!
Gingerbread houses are another favorite of ours.
We buy kits or make them from scratch using graham crackers. The fun is in the decorating – we go crazy with colored candies, icing and sprinkles.
It gets messy but that’s part of the magic! Decorating gingerbread houses is a lovely tradition that brings joy and creativity to the holiday season.
Pro tip: Make extra gingerbread dough.
The kids love cutting out fun shapes and decorating gingerbread people. That keeps them busy while we work on the main house.
Hot Chocolate Bar with the Family
Who doesn’t love snuggling up with a mug of hot cocoa? We take it to the next level with a hot chocolate bar.
It’s super easy and a hit with kids and adults.
We put out different hot chocolate mixes, milk options and tons of toppings. Some of our favorites:
Mini marshmallows
Whipped cream
Candy canes
Chocolate chips
Cinnamon sticks
Flavored syrups
Everyone gets to make their own cup. It’s a great activity for holiday gatherings or movie nights.
Hosting a Cozy Holiday Dinner with Holiday Meals
The big holiday meal is the main event for many children here. Children can write letters to Santa Claus or leave cookies for him as part of the holiday dinner traditions.
We like to put our own spin on traditional dishes and try new recipes from around the world.
Traditional foods vary by culture but the warmth and love are the same. Some we’ve tried:
Polish 12-dish Christmas Eve dinner
Tamales (a Mexican tradition)
Yule log cake (Bûche de Noël)
Don’t worry about making everything perfect.
The most important ingredient is sharing the meal with loved ones. And if something burns, there’s always takeout!
Christmas Eve Traditions
Christmas Eve is a magical time, filled with anticipation and joy. Many families have their own unique traditions to celebrate this special night, making it a time of cherished memories and festive fun.
Special Dinner and Activities
A special dinner on Christmas Eve can set the tone for a night of holiday cheer. Whether you’re serving a traditional meal like turkey or ham, or trying out a new festive recipe, the key is to enjoy it with your loved ones. After dinner, keep the holiday spirit alive with fun activities. Play holiday games, sing Christmas carols, or gather around to watch a beloved holiday movie. These activities not only bring joy but also strengthen the bonds of family and friendship. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something that fills your home with warmth and holiday
Building Family Memories

Winter celebrations are the perfect time to make warm memories with our family. Let’s get started and make some memories we’ll treasure forever.
Holiday Story Time
Gather ‘round! It’s time to get cozy and tell stories.
We love snuggling up with hot cocoa and blankets for a night of storytelling.
Take turns sharing family legends, holiday memories or made-up, winter solstice adventures.
Be creative! Use funny voices or act out parts of the story.
Kids can join their grandparents and parents in too – their imaginations are always the best.
Don’t forget to take pictures!
Pro tip: Start a tradition of reading a special holiday book each year.
Before you know it the kiddos will be reciting it from memory!
Themed Family Game Nights
Game on! Nothing beats the winter solstice blues like a little friendly competition.
Pick a theme each week – maybe “Winter Wonderland” or “Santa’s Workshop” – and go all out with decorations and snacks.
Here are some of our favorites:
Holiday charades
Gingerbread house building contest
Christmas movie trivia
Snowman drawing challenge
Don’t forget to make it fun with silly prizes.
Dollar store trophies or homemade medals make it even more fun.
The best part? These game nights bring everyone together and create memories that will last way longer than any toy.
Starting a Memory Jar Tradition
Let’s collect those moments!
Get a big jar, some colorful paper and pens.
Throughout the holiday season have everyone write down their favorite moments and put them in the jar.
It could be:
Something someone said that was funny
A treat you baked together
A kind word from a family member
On New Year’s Eve gather ‘round and take turns reading the memories out loud.
It’s like a highlight reel of past year in your family’s year!
This tradition helps us focus on the good stuff and appreciate the world and each other more.
Bonus idea: Have the kids decorate the jar each year.
It’ll become a keepsake filled with love and laughter.
Holiday Activities

Winter is a wonderful life, full of opportunities to make memories with our family. Let’s get started!
Crafty Afternoons: DIY Decor and Ornaments
Who’s ready for some glitter and glue? We love getting crafty during the holidays!
DIY Christmas ornaments are the perfect way to add a personal touch to our trees.
Get some clear glass balls, ribbons and paint – the kids will love it!
Holiday crafts aren’t just for the tree.
We can make wreaths from pinecones we collect on a family walk. Or how about a centerpiece with candles and greenery? The possibilities are endless!
Holiday Outings
Time to bundle up and get out for some holiday fun!
Ice skating is always a hit. We may wobble at first but soon we’ll be gliding to the music.
How about a cozy nature walk to see the lights?
Many neighborhoods and parks have great displays. We can drink hot cocoa and point out our favorite decorations.
Check local events.
Holiday markets are perfect for finding unique gifts and treats. Or we could catch a showing of The Nutcracker for some old school Christmas cheer.
Giving Back: Charity Drives and Community Service
The holidays are all about celebration and spreading joy and what better way to celebrate than by helping others?
We can have a charity drive in our neighborhood. Collecting coats, toys or food for local shelters feels so good.
Community service is a great way to teach our kids about kindness.
We might volunteer at a soup kitchen or visit a nursing home to sing carols. Even small acts like shoveling snow for an elderly neighbor makes a big difference.
Let’s get crafty with our gift giving!!
We could bake cookies for local firefighters or make care packages for homeless shelters. The whole family can help, it’s a fun activity with a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Winter Wonderland
Winter is full of magical opportunities to get outside with our family. We love bundling up and making memories in the snow and ice. Let’s get started!
Sledding to Ice Skating: Outdoor Fun
Who’s ready?
Sledding is a winter classic that never gets old. We bundle up, grab our sleds and zoom down the snowy hills. The laughter and screams of joy are priceless!
Ice skating is a must do.
We put on our skates and glide across frozen ponds or indoor rinks. We may wobble but that’s part of the fun! Holding hands and spinning together is a sweet bonding moment.
For a change of pace we love winter hikes.
The snow covered trails are so peaceful. We play “I Spy” to find animal tracks or icicles along the way. Don’t forget to bring a thermos of hot cocoa to warm up!
Winter Picnic
Who says picnics are just for summer? We’re all about mixing things up with a winter picnic. It’s a fun way to get outside and make some special memories.
First we choose a spot. A winter trail or a snow covered park works great.
We bring warm blankets and cushions to sit on so we stay cozy and dry.
For food we bring thermoses of soup, sandwiches and hot drinks. Finger foods like cheese cubes and fruit are easy to eat with gloves on.
And don’t forget some sweet treats – cookies or brownies are perfect!
We like to bring some outdoor games too. A frisbee or football will get us moving and warm us up.
Remember to dress in layers and bring extra mittens. A winter picnic is a memory we’ll be talking about for years to come!
